Norfolk County Rugby Finals

Gresham proudly finished 3rd in the Norfolk County Rugby Finals after a stunning four wins and two draws!

We travelled to Norwich Rugby Club today as North Norfolk Champions for the Norfolk Winter Games Rugby Finals. It was very cold so we wrapped up well and quickly decided that next year we would invest in a school set of thermal base layers!

We started the competition confidently, beating Bawburgh 5 - 3, then drawing with All Saints in an end to end 14 try thriller. After an 11 - 3 victory over Rollesby, we retired to the club house for lunch as group winners and looking forward to the County Cup competition on the afternoon. This is uncharted water for us, as although this is the fourth year running that we have qualified for the County Finals, we had never before got past the morning group stage.

So, with the afternoon getting colder, we headed off to play for the county title. Our first opponents were Alpington, which ended in a 5 - 5 draw. We then went on to beat Bawburgh again 5 - 4 and Fairhaven 6 - 4. We could only watch the final game between Bawburgh and Alpington and hope for a draw that would send us to the final. The game ebbed and flowed, but ended with a win for Alpington, meaning we lost out on the final game on tries scored.

Once again I cannot stress how proud I am of the whole team, who showed so much determination and team spirit throughout. Well done Joshua and Fiona-May (captains), Kieran, Luca, Felicity, Ziggy, Isaac and Freddie and thank you to Mrs Dunnett and Mr Palmer too. It is a day for us all to be proud of and remember!
