Crossing the Holt Road

Tuesday 14th April

This half-term Reception and Year 1 are learning about bridges and tunnels. Their first challenge was to come up with a safe way to cross Holt Road which gets very busy, particularly in the summer. The children suggested putting in traffic lights, a bridge or even a tunnel. We talked about the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Then, with a partner, the children chose their construction materials and built their crossing.

Some groups changed to a different construction material as their bridge was too wobbly.

We tested our bridges by driving vehicles underneath. Some bridges had to then be made wider or taller.
The Holt Road looked very busy, but at least we could safely cross it!
