28 athletes from Key Stage 2 travelled to the University of East Anglia Sports Park on Monday to compete in the first Cromer and Sheringham Sports Partnership Games and came home as Small Schools' winners with an impressive points total that rivalled some of the 'big schools'!
Sports Captain, Macy James, collected two gold medals for the 80m sprint and long jump and was the final leg of an impressive year 6 girls' relay team, who finished second overall. The team was made up of Macy, Kacey, Abby and Emily. Strong running from the first three girls had already secured second place even before Macy set off on the final leg. Macy's winning long jump was a massive 4.5 metres, the longest jump I have ever witnessed at primary level.
Fiona-May was unstoppable as she collected gold in the year 4 50m sprint and then went on to lead the year 4 girls to second place in the relay along with Felicity, Emma and Pearl. I was convinced that the girls had won gold, only to find that they had been pipped at the post.
Felicity also won gold in the year 3 400 metres, finishing a clear 40 metres ahead of the rest of the field.
Once again it was a highly impressive team performance from all our athletes that enabled us to do so well. Along with the gold medals, we had numerous second and third places. The attitude of all 28 children made me very proud and showed why Gresham Village School and Nursery have been so successful this year, not only in competitions, but also in their everyday PE and games lessons.
Many thanks to Mrs Swanson and Mrs Dunnett for all their help and hard work and to Mrs Williamson, Mrs Tatam and Miss Goodall for their invaluable help on the day.
